So far not what it seems, but we’ll see.,
Well by this time I started to notice a lot of screen noise, static all over the picture, that would come and go. Then I noticed some brief ghosting/with artifacts here and there. Eventually it seemed as the TV “warmed up” you might say, this seemed to disappear. Then while watching an episode of Earth, to test it out the static noise would come and go, on Netflix. I didn’t think much of it, but then after turning noise levels on High, it still didn’t change. Xmotion really didn’t work, or I couldn’t see one bit of difference. NOTE:This feature, along with advanced features can only be used under custom mode. I wasn’t going to set up the Smart TV network features, since it only has a few and I just use the Xbone, and a 360. I plug in my HDD for DLNA content. But I went ahead with it, and did the update that popped up. I thought this might help, but it really didn’t. After the fact I noticed on a lot of movies everything started to have a green tint to it. Or a yellowish effect. Adjustment after adjustment just didn’t seem to help. Then I also noticed the update had knocked out my digital audio adapter running through my “Sony” sound system.
Well as usual, I had to google this issue, and found out how to “reset” the whole TV (tedious but not bad), and took a little bit of time, but after I did the audio started to work. So basically if you have any kind of audio adapter, from digital to analog, the update will make it stop working. No matter what. So after retracting this, the set up was fast, not a big deal. But the ghosting seemed to get worse, 2 or 4 faces artifacting upon movements. Xmotion was set to auto, and I turned it off. And nothing. So I put it on custom setting and basically tried to set it up the same as vivid. The TV has a lot of advanced settings. So I used them and thus far it has a stunning picture. So I’m not sure if the yellow/green effect, ghosting/artifacts are just when the TV comes on, then “adapts”, so to speak, but I find this unacceptable. So I’ll update the next few days to see how the TV does. I hope it’s not the HDMI ports, because it got better when I switched from 1 to 2. Funny how my good old Vizio has 3, and every composite/component in/output know to man, and I never have had any of these problems. So good luck to me, I’ll need it. May be making a trip back and putting back my old TV. At least it could figure itself out, and I could just use the analog connections and be happy.
I’ll also note the audio is fantastic. Lots of good settings for a good clear sound. Here’s hoping.

A great value, no major issues after initial testing,
The picture is quite good after tweaking the settings. An HDMI feed from my PC results in very clear text with no distortion. Be sure to turn down the sharpness to avoid artifacts around text. I think this screen may offer 4:4:4 chroma subsampling based on the attached test image. I’m very pleased with the viewing angles and the screen is definitely usable for more than just straight ahead viewing.
I wasn’t planning on using the Smart features, but the Netflix app works really well and is responsive enough to not become annoyed. The wifi streaming playback is very smooth, but navigating the folder structure is horribly slow. The interface insists on creating thumbnails for each movie file, which takes forever if you have a directory with many files. I would much rather just see a detailed list without thumbnails. When you finally do find your desired movie the playback is very good. If you keep the directory contents small (~10 items or fewer) you may not have any problems.
The unit is very thin and light and setup was a breeze. You just have to put in 4 screws to attach the base and then you’re ready to go. The power adapter comes with a “brick” style converter. The remote is well laid out and the menus are easy to navigate without feeling cumbersome.
The stand is 8″ deep x 22.25″ wide. The TV stands 26.5″ from table top to the top of the bezel with stand attached. The TV is 42.75″ wide from outside bezel edge to outside bezel edge.
Overall I’m very pleased with what this offers in the $400-500 range. (I actually paid $398 but that was after some customer service adjustments at Fry’s).
NOTE: If you see any strange distortion in the images it’s likely a result of the camera, image compression, and resizing. Some of the strange patterns seen in the images are not present when viewing in person.
