Top Notch Android TV Device; A+++ Would buy again,
Tips:
–Run ALL updates; Both shield, Android TV, AND last but not least all the different app updates; 1.2 Shield update made a world of difference
–Get yourself a nice bluetooth keyboard, pair it, AND once you do set the Android TV Settings -> Input -> Virtual remote keyboard input. That was a little confusing at first. Even though i had a keyboard paired, the on screen keyboard would continue to show (and it gets in the way.)
–Take advantage of the magic of PLeX. I cannot stress this enough. It literally eliminates your need to worry about any other type of media player. Easily the best media player out there
–Be patient. I have very high hopes for this device and you should too
Pros
–Super fast
–500 GB harddrive
–GAME STREAMING IS AMAZING
–Best TV UI out there
–Slim and sexy look
Cons
–I quit gaming, however, my gf and I broke up last week so this is not the time for me to get back into gaming YET HERE I AM

Exceeded my expectaions,
Let me start by saying that this thing is very well built and has a good bit of weight to it. I was expecting it to be a cheap piece of plastic, but it is far from that. The size is perfect as well. If the green LED light bothers you, you can dim it and even turn it completely off in the settings.
The device has performed great. I haven’t noticed any slowdowns at all, and everything performs honestly better than I thought. I expected issues being that this device is so new. Now, I did have an issue with the remote control, where the down arrow on the d-pad didn’t work consistently, but I contacted Nvidia, and they sent me out a new controller without me having to jump through hoops.
Gaming wise, it’s a great device, and honestly, I can see it giving Microsoft and Sony a run for its money. If your a PC gamer, then there’s a good chance that your PC will allow you to stream your Steam games to your Shield. You also have the Grid system, which is still a work in progress, but performs well on my 80mb/s hardwired internet connection.
I don’t game too much, and honestly I’ve mainly stuck to the games that are available on Google play like half-life, portal, asphalt racing, bomb squad, etc. Not every game available for Android is available on this device, but the library will grow quickly I’m sure.
As far as entertainment goes, you have your usuals on here. You have Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and even the newer Sling TV service. As of now, Hulu integrates well into Android TV. The top bar on the main screen will show you recommended shows on Hulu, and you can also use the voice search to find Hulu shows as well. Sadly, Netflix can’t do this yet, but I’m sure they’ll add that functionality soon.
I do wish that it came with the smaller $50 remote as well, but you can use the larger one to do everything. It’s just a bit of a pain to pick it up and use it when you don’t want to game.
With that said, the technology in this device actually lets me use my “dumb” TV remote to pause, play, fast forward and even browse shows on the device. I don’t have a smart TV, and the remote is very basic, but it works well.
This device has exceeded my expectations and I couldn’t recommend it enough. I did go back and forth between the 16gb model and this one, and I’ll say that I’m happy I chose the larger version. Several games like half-life and portal prompted to download over 2gb of data on first launch, and I’m sure many others will as well.
If you’ve been looking for an entertainment device for your living room, do yourself a favor and pick up this awesome device.

Best media streaming player – hands down,
This is the best streaming media player that I have used. I’ve tried Fire TV, Roku, and Chromecast. I also had the Forge TV for a very short period before returning it.
Pros:
– Really snappy UI. Moves quickly around the screen (Note: I tried Android TV on the new Sony TVs and it felt really show in comparison)
– 4K ready. I’m waiting for lower 4K TV prices this fall but at least I’m ready for it now and I won’t have to buy another streaming box later.
– Voice search. Hands down it is better than the basic voice search from Fire TV and Roku. Google can understand full sentences and do complex searches and also voice commands like ‘open netflix’
– Games. Really great games on this box. Better graphics than you get on Fire TV and of course games are in a different league than Roku.
– 500GB allows us to install lots of games and also store videos/pictures. Kids won’t be complaining about running of of space for their games like they did on the 16GB version.
– Comes with PLEX presintalled. We use this to stream our family home videos from our PC to our TV. great feature
– Controller and remote have voice search and volume control, plus headset jacks so you can listen late at night without waking anyone up!
Cons:
– Remote comes separate. My wife is more comfortable with a traditional remote so I needed to pick that up as well.
– Waiting for Amazon Prime to come to SHIELD. Hopefully soon since I see it is on the Sony Android TVs.
– Premium price. You definitely pay a premium for these features but I figure I have already spent a ton on my tv and content services so it makes sense to not to limit the experience with a cheaper streaming box.
