Best-in-Class for Cost/Performance–Top Scanning Speeds
The Fujitsu fi-7160 Desktop Scanner was designed to support increasingly diverse business-related desktop scanning for individual knowledge workers or small workgroups. Simple, productivity-boosting operation virtually eliminates training requirements, both when using the scanner for regular document management routines as well as accomplishing individual ad hoc tasks.
This scanner comes with many new features and additions in the box like USB 3.0 support and adjustable, multi-line LCD. The PaperStream IP driver takes the work out of image cleanup when scanning invoices, ID cards, receipts, forms, or any other day to day paperwork. PaperStream IP automatically improves the image quality, removes unwanted backgrounds, and optimizes your scanned images for optical character recognition. Assisted Scan, another new feature of PaperStream IP, allows users to replace poor images by visually selecting the image they lack rather than learning driver settings.

Advanced PaperStream Capture Software
PaperStream Capture Software makes advanced capture with Fujitsu scanners easier than before. PaperStream Capture has a streamlined User Interface to reduce learning curves and increase productivity configurable profile icons and a batch creation wizard. Built into the out-of-the-box profiles are the most common settings used by customers, including black and white, color, and auto-color, all outputting to PDF at a standard DPI. Batches can be suspended for quality control or completion. And documents can be separated and named by the reading of barcodes for improved document organization. Profiles can also be delivered via the free Scanner Central Admin software which helps IT staff manage fleets of units.

This is a great product,
My only gripe is that there is no documentation for the software and although it is easy to load and works flawlessly, it took quite some time to figure out exactly how to use it. You have to first create “Driver Profiles” that contain the options that you want. Then you create scanner profiles and select other options that you want and select a driver profile to go along with it. The combinations are endless. Color only. B&W only. Auto color recognize. Various resolutions. OCR or not? Pdf or jpeg? Their PaperStream software is brand new and there is already a newer version on their website to download. There are options in the software for things I have never heard of, and evidently would only be useful in an enterprise environment.
I contacted Fujitsu twice and got English speaking people answering the phone who were knowledgeable and polite. I must be dreaming. I highly recommend this product. Very satisfied, but ouch it is costly.
1/21/2014 Update: Just finished scanning 5000 pages since I bought it. I believe there were only 2 misfeeds that were not my fault (forgetting to remove a staple). It has now told me that it is now scheduled for its 5000 page cleaning so I called Fujitsu to ask a question about that, a very nice ENGLISH speaking person answered and told me that I really do not need to pay for the cleaner and pads specified in the manual, just use isopropyl alcohol greater than 90%. I did, worked fine, saved money. ANOTHER positive interaction w Fujitsu. Then I went into the software to reset the counter for cleaning to “0” so that it will let me know in another 5000 pages. There are other page counters that will let you know when it may be time for replacement of different feed rollers, and then there is a global page counter that cannot be reset. I am very impressed.
What is interesting is that I originally performed my research and settled on the HP Scanjet Flo 7000 which is also a new model and has very similar features. I ordered it directly from HP and the shipping date kept getting pushed back, and back. I kept calling and emailing Hp to ask for a realistic shipping date. They kept giving me different excuses such as, “I tried contacting the warehouse and I can’t get through”, then “I sent an email to the warehouse to ask and they have not responded”, then it was “there was a large rain storm that knocked out the electricity and the servers are down and it won’t be until tomorrow when they come up.” Delays, lies at Hp caused me to cancel the order and go with the Fujitsu Fi-7160. I could not be happier with how things worked out. Interestingly, in the last month I noticed Fujitsu scanners at hospitals and other large corporations that I have been in, not HP.

Outstanding scanner,
To me the beauty of this scanner is in its simplicity. It doesn’t do any more than I need it to do. It works as fast as I can react to, image quality is outstanding – yet does not burden me down with fancy things I will never use. I use the example of some of the bigger scanners such as using Kofax VRS. Yes VRS is great software, . But have you ever tried to use it? Let alone install it and then tweak it and use it? What a nightmare. This is a perfect reason of why I like this Fujitsu scanner so much. You turn the scanner on, it scans my document, it is smart enough to ignore back pages of a single page document, write out my PDF file correctly and be done – all within seconds. It comes with its own ScandAll Pro which I admit is a bit odd, but it does everything I needed to do in the simple to use.
For my customers, and anything under $5,000 this is the scanner I provide them and here’s the scary part… My company is an imaging VAR ( value added reseller) specific to the scanning industry. . Heck it’s easier for me – and Amazon’s cost is the same cost I pay from distribution – to simply buy it from Amazon and let Amazon drop ship it to the user.
