I know what you may be thinking (because it’s what I was thinking too) – Cardboard, really? I had no clue what to expect when I ordered this except that people kept talking about it and I needed to see what it was about. Since it arrived, I don’t think it has been out of someone in this house’s hands, whether kid or adult.
So it really is made out of cardboard and when it arrives, it looks like a small cardboard square. I actually said to my husband when I opened it – “it really is cardboard”. I am not sure what I expected. Thankfully it comes with instructions. It has picture instructions and then QR codes for an assembly video. There are also QR codes on the instructions for Free 3D Apps and a discount coupon. Just by looking at it, I assumed I would have to go to the assembly video but it was really easy to put together with just the picture instructions.
Here is a quick run down of how to put it together. When it arrives, it is a square and the first thing you do is tear off the long strip on the side that says D-Scope Pro then fold it open. Next you will tear off the top part of the cardboard that is not actually a part of the product. I was worried about tearing the cardboard when doing this so I bent it back and forth on the perforation and it really just came apart. The D-Scope Pro itself is all one piece after you remove the tab and the top part. The next part is what looks like the difficult part but really it isn’t . All you do it find the tabs and slots that match up (tab 1, slot 1, etc..) and go in order. When you do that, it just folds over itself and creates the viewer. In my video I attached, I did a quick run through of how to put it together. Once together then you place your phone or iPod in it and have fun. I will point out that with my Samsung Galaxy S5, I have to take it out of my case for it to fit well into the viewer.
There are tons of 3D Virtual Reality apps made for Google Cardboard. There are apps ranging from riding roller coasters to watching videos to horror scenes. You can find dinosaurs and take a walk through Tuscany. You can also play something similar to Minecraft. The D-Scope Pro works great. The lenses are just the right distance apart for adults and children. Okay, so the real question you are probably asking is “what does it really do with these apps and your phone?”. When you open one of the apps, the app will divide your screen in two so that both eyes are seeing the same image like binoculars. Once you look into the D-Scope you see it as one screen and the technology of the D-Scope allows you to see the image in 3D. With some of the apps you might just be watching something 3D and others you can interact with. You can, in almost all of them, get a 360 degree, 3D view of the world you are in. For example, on the roller coaster app you can look up, down, behind you and all around and see everything just like you were there. You can see all parts of the track, you can see the town around you, the sky, the ground, etc… To see behind you on the app, you will actually have to turn your body around with the D-Scope. Many of the apps are cartoon like graphics but you still get the feel of moving, being there, etc….
My entire family has loved playing with this. We have downloaded a ton of apps and my children have fought over this like crazy (this really speaks volumes about the D-Scope). I have laughed so hard watching others play with this as they move around, turn in circles and interact. This could be so much fun at a party if you had several of these for adults, children, teens to play with. I think I am going to start buying these for birthday presents for my children’s and teenager’s friends.

|First Time User…Skeptical At First, But I’m Sold!,

This is my first foray into the VR world, I’m quite impressed! When I saw these Cardboard glasses I was wondering if this was some sort of joke, but it definitely wasn’t. I figured I’ve wasted much more than $15 so I gave it a shot. Turns out this was money well spent for a new “toy”.
They came with easy to follow directions OR you could scan the QR code to view a video of the directions on your smartphone. It was fairly easy to assemble and did’t take more than a few minutes. Once assembled you have to download one of the apps. I downloaded Titans of Space since I figured looking around space in virtual reality would be a good start, and it was great! My two sons, 8 and 3.5 absolutely loved it (wasn’t sure if I was going to get my phone back). The app took about 225MB of memory, so I will assume most of them will take up a lot of memory.
I suggest you don’t walk around with them because you are bound to run into a wall or something, but using a swivel chair is good if you have one!

When I opened this, it was extremely easy to put it together. My son had it put together in less than 5 minutes. I have an android based phone and I simply went to my app store and did a search for Google Cardboard. It brought up a ton of apps. I chose several that peaked my interest. I put my phone in the area marked to put your phone in the box, started the app. (chose an app that makes you feel like your on a roller coaster) , and started watching. Or rather, I should say started “riding”on the “Roller Coaster Ride”. It really makes you feel like your on an actual ride you even get the funny feeling in your stomach when you go on the dips in the ride. It is amazing!
This has fast become a FAMILY favorite. From my 7 year old grand baby, to my husband…everybody wants to use this! There is an app for everybody in the family , and I can’t say enough good things about this!!I I highly recommend this to you no matter how old you are! It is just plain fun!!
